CYDFI Scholarship Program Model
Scholarship is such a precious word for someone who looks forward to
have a brighter future in life through education, especially, for an indigent
but deserving talented youth who, otherwise, finds oneself brooding in
the corner and feeling sorry for the misery of one's life due to the lack of
material resources that the family is deprived of. This reality is hardly
ignored on how a young person's life can be adversely affected. In some
cases, the young person may just be drifted with the flow of the river
and follows wherever the water current will direct him/her to, as the
struggles of life continue to pound and subject him/her. There are those
who strive hard and do whatever decent thing to do to confront the
challenge of poverty as it takes its toll along the way. Depending upon on
how a young person is affected or react on the misery of one's life, s/he
may end up, in the process, being successful or otherwise.
Recognizing the truth of this painful reality, there is an army of individuals who may want to come forward and do
something to respond to the misery of these unfortunate young ones. They established "scholarships" in their behalf,
but noticeably, these same scholarship efforts are, a lot times, not cohesive and without an umbrella of direction except
to signify that "help" is extended. And rightly so, although an ancient paradigm of "helping a youth, help himself" is
acceptable as a norm in helping make a difference in the life of the youth, it does not go beyond to explicitly empower
him/her to walk an extra mile and be self-empowered to do and share this same life's experience to other indigent but
deserving talented youth. The Founder believes that this is the missing link why we have so many efforts of scholarships
and yet, it has not effectvely produced an outcome where there is a "felt" collective impact on the community and/or the
society, in general. The energy released in this endeavor of "scattered efforts of helping those in need thru scholarships"
does not have a "focused" target so as to have its positive impact felt in the community and have the outcome trigger a
"collective" change for growth and development in the society. What the Calantas Young Dreamers Foundation, Inc.
(CYDFI Philippines) is simply advocating for is "to help a youth, help himself so he can help other youth (incoming
scholars)" or, to put it in its mission statement:
"empower indigent but deserving talented youth through a Scholarship
Program Model (SWREM Theory), designed to help him, help himself so he can help incoming scholars leading to
breaking the cycle of poverty with implications, not only to personal but community growth and development, as he
learns to become socially responsible".
This mission statement addresses what the ancient paradigm of empowerment
has not tackled, that is, asking the youth to walk an extra mile after help is provided to him/her by actively doing and
sharing to others of what he has learned to gain in life. In a nutshell, the Scholarship Program Model of the Calantas
Young Dreamers Foundation, Inc. is to empower youth to be self-empowered. This modality creates a "
spiral with ripple
effect motion
" of the Scholarship Program Model of the Foundation. It is fair, then, to say that Calantas Young Dreamers
Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Program (a.ka. CYDFISP) Model has the following key ingredients for growth and
development to address the issue of abject poverty among the youth in Calantas and indigenous people "Aetas" in
Nabuclod, and is advocated for replication in other Philippine rural communities:
  1. CYDFISP Model empowers youth to be self-empowered, enabling him to be the best of what s/he is capable of
    being and becoming.
  2. CYDFISP creates an environment where youth's search for meaning to be self-actualized and full development of
ones' own humanity are nurtured and nourished; thus positively affecting self-esteem and effecting a "creatively"
    productive life.
  3. The principle guiding CYDFISP to have a predictable success of outcome is based on a theory designed by the
Founder, called: "SWREM Theory". SWREM stands for "spiral with ripple effect motion" that when applied into
a program design, it becomes a methodology of the Foundation, identified as: "SWREM Theory In Action". Please,
