| NOTE: "Baluga and Negrito" are terms used by Pampango and non-Pampango lowlanders but are deeply resented by the Aetas themselves. They indicate a "put-down" connotation like being considered a "second rate" citizen, thus affecting their self-esteem as a "people". The sense of being one with them in their inner circle can be articulated by using words like "patil = an Aeta term for kapatid (brother/sister) and/or kuya/ate (brother/sister). In this video excerpt, the word Negrito is used without a malice intent to look down on the Aetas but to demonstrate and educate non-Aetas on the sensitivity of the issue. It is not an excuse but most lowlanders are unaware of the negative connotation when they refer to Aetas as "Baluga or Negrito". Others still have the negative attitude towards the Aetas, that is why they keep calling them either "Baluga or Negrito". It is about time to recognize the "human dignity" of the Aetas. This is justice. And the first requiremnt of love is justice. And justice is to give what is due to a person/Aeta. |
